Let’s be honest—your UX case presentation might be the most important part of the interview process.
Why? Because it’s usually your first time presenting to the entire interview committee. These sessions often come with a score sheet. Interviewers rate you across specific dimensions, compare notes, and yes, make hiring decisions based on what happens in that room.
Having sat through dozens of these as a hiring manager and bar raiser, I’ve seen what separates memorable presentations from forgettable ones. I’ve also coached clients who went from overwhelmed to outstanding. So let’s pull back the curtain and talk about what interviewers are really evaluating—and how you can nail it.

Here’s what interviewers are typically evaluating during your case presentation:
Problem Understanding
How effectively did the candidate frame the problem at the beginning of the case study, including key user needs and business objectives?
Utilizing Research
How effectively did the candidate utilize appropriate research to refine their problem understanding and inform their design decisions?
Process
How well did the candidate describe their design process (e.g., ideation, prototyping, iteration) and demonstrate learnings and progressions over iterations?
Collaboration
How well did the candidate engage stakeholders and work with cross-functional partners throughout their processes?
Technical Skills
How visually and logically compelling were the designs?
Did the candidate demonstrate attention to detail, consistency, accessibility, and ecosystem thinking?
(For UXR) How well did the candidate articulate their research and recruitment methods?
Decision Making
How effectively did the candidate explain their decision-making process, including trade-offs between competing priorities?
Communication
How engaging was their presentation? Is the case coherent?
Was the candidate able to answer the interviewer’s questions clearly?
Cultural Fit
How well would this candidate fit in the team (professionalism, humility, openness…)?
Did they bring something unique to the table?
